  • The Woman Made of Steel!!

At first glance, Evelyn S. Annable may seem shy and good natured but, underneath her peaceful smile there is a determination that goes unmatched. Just a year ago, upon exiting her vehicle to inspect the damage of a rear-end collision she encountered, she was hit, head-on, by an oncoming car.

Luckily, after several months of intense physical therapy, Evelyn bounced back and has learned to cope with the constant pain in her ankle by repeating simple breathing exercises while she runs. Evelyn believes that with hard work, determination and consistency, anyone can achieve her success, “Most people in my situation would come up with a million excuses why they should not be running instead, I came up with a million-and-one reasons with why I would be running!”

She states, “When I broke my ankle, I was told I would not be able to run again. At that point in time, I was still new to running so it could have been easy for me to say ok, I’ll find something else but instead I took it as a challenge. I decided then, that I’d get better and quickly get back to doing what had become so important to me. Where there is a will, there is a way! It won’t always be easy, but it is also not impossible.”

Fortunately, this accident, with fate, has not only shaped Evelyn’s determination to conquer the 2013 Chicago Half Marathon but has also helped her find the inner strength to help lead the WRG Cicero tribe. The Warriors Running Group’s Cicero tribe is important to Evelyn, “To me it means opportunity, goals, trust, new challenges, passion, honesty and most of all family. Old and new runners, alike, are always welcomed with warmth and care, this makes it easy our new runners to check their nerves and any reservations they might have and instead, allows them the peace of mind to focus and run.”

  • The Warrior Mom That Won’t Stop!

Jennifer Rodriguez at first may seem like your average mom however, she has to overcome a life long weight battle, two pregnancies resulting in pre-eclampsia within the last 3 years.  While most people would focus on the negative and give up. She has made her challenges her motivator to reach her goals. “I continue to push myself, when I thought I was tired, i kept telling myself to go farther and go faster. Everyone can be a runner, everyone is born to run. The speed mileage is up to me but I CAN RUN and I WILL TRY!”

The Warriors Running Group has become her place that she can forget her challenges and practices the things she preaches. “The WRG means a lot to me! It’s awesome after a good run or a bad one to get to the end of the runs and see your fellow warriors clapping because you made it!”

Jennifer Rodriguez view on life has helped her get closer to her goal of becoming a healthier and happier person. “I am the lowest weight I have been in 10 years and for me that is just amazing! The journey is still a long one but I’m running down the path with the WRG!”

Pictures from today’s long run with the warriors and our monthly meeting!! The weather was not that amazing, but also not that bad. I just wish it could have been in the 60s 70s this morning instead of all late in the afternoon! This time, the warriors ran through Bridgeport! The beginners ran about 5 1/2 6 miles, while the intermediate/advance ran almost 7. Overall, I would say it was a lovely Sunday morning run (:

I especially felt really well about it. I’ve been getting a bit nervous because my first half-marathon of the year is in 2 months!! I registered for the Womens half in June, and am TOTALLLLLY stoked about it. I also want to throw up and hide under the blankets at the same time. Running causes bi-polarness every once and a while. haha Anyways, I haven’t been running as much or as long as I would like to. Mostly due to school and the weather. I cannot wait for the sun to be rising, and the air to be warm in the early mornings!

Moving on from my college life dilemmas, the warriors held a tribe meeting after our run at Bridgeport Cafe. Which I must admit, had delicious sandwiches and coffee! This meeting discussed topics such as new colors and gear, representing at races and giving individuals acknowledgment for “runners milestones”, expanding the warrior tribe, and how we can all help one another out. Also, we welcomed our new coach Heather! She ran her first marathon in 2005 and is signed up for this Chicago Marathon and explained how she is excited to train with newbies to marathons and others who have done it a few times (:

Furthermore, in one of the pictures above, I show a key card that says “Sports Ortho”. By being a member of the warrior tribe, one of the benefits is being able to go to this physical therapy clinic, where they will give your body a sort of “check up” and tell you of any injuries or possible injuries you have. They also offer ice baths for post races! Eeek! I will however, be taking full advantage of this perk! Need to make sure this body keeps moving strong and healthy!

Started the month of right! Gahh! I hate this cold! I miss warm summer nights when I couldn’t WAIT to go out for run, but in this bipolar Chicago weather, it makes me just want to go home under the covers and stay here on tumblr all night. haha Since I got a bunch of new running gear and it wasn’t too chilly, I felt a little bit more motivated to go for a short run. I’ve only been running like once a twice a week this past month, so I knew it wasn’t going to be a piece of cake. Especially since I was going to run about a minute faster than I was running on my own.
Overall, the run went pretty well though! I never really stopped to walk, only at stop lights, and I kept up with my group and ran at about a 9:30 pace for 4.36 miles. (: Everyone was in super bright colors because of the Easter holiday the previous day, so it was fun seeing everyone so vibrant!
Also, the coaches showed the group our Warriors new running gear, which included a sexy supportive sports bra, mens and womens v-necks and crew t-shirts, and a hoodie! The t-shirts were a bit more casual and can be worn to other places besides the gym, and looked great! I personally am excited to get the awesome sports bra! (:

Woooh! Feels great to be running regularly again! I’ve been running everyday since Saturday, and feeling that runners high never gets old! I will admit at first I mostly felt tired and slow, since I’m not running my usually pace and distance. I’ve been running 4 miles at an 10:30/11min pace. Today however, I was feeling motivated and happy and ran at like an 8 or 9 minute pace! I was so stoked to hear that <3 I was so upset I couldn’t go to the Warriors run because of all the homework I’ve gotten, but happy I still got a good run in!

Now just have to work on the distance! I have my first race of 2013 on May 25 and it’s the soldier field 10 miler. Then, I have the women’s half marathon in June!! Excited for that as well (:
